Escape with Puppy is a maze game for the Mega 65 retro computer, and an entry to the Screenful of BASIC 2025 competition.
Escape from a series of cellar rooms together with your puppy. Each time you and puppy reach the stairs, you ascend by 10 rooms; each time you fail to do so in time (or press fire because you are stuck; not every room is solvable), you descend by 3 rooms. Try to reach room 100 or higher and you will win!
The game has replay value: Pressing a different button on startup will lead you to a different series of rooms.

Install instructions
Mount as disk image into Mega 65 or xemu. LOAD and RUN as usual. Needs a joystick in port 2. Best experienced when run on a freshly booted system (otherwise some colors, fonts, or sound might be off).

Impressive game, especially given the limitations it was build with :-)
I didn't manage to solve it, but I might be hooked to try again :-)
This is very impressive! Also, I think it's a little bit too hard. I reached level 90+ many times, but then fell down to 75-85 before going up to 90+ again. The ghost is helpful but unpredictable. A few times I managed to complete a level thnks to the ghost. After an hour or so, I gave up. Nevertheless, it's a really cool game idea, nice sound and graphics, and it's just crazy that you fit it on one screen of Basic!

Yes, test-playing one's own games tends to make them more difficult than they should. I'd actually say the same about Dark Horse Tim ;-)
I made sure that it can be solved when started with the space bar, figuring that that's the key most users will use first. But even then, you need to go up and down several times, because you need to go through level 92 to win in this case.
